So, last May, a small but merry band of Guild members gathered for a mystery membership meeting where they were asked to help take a stack of wooden pallets, dismantle them, pull lots of nails out and build the pieces into child size decorative chairs. ![]() Board member Donna Mark came to the table last year with an idea that a local arts group had tried last year with success take pallets, build small chairs, ask artists to decorate them and then auction them off as a fundraiser. As the returns on this fundraiser have dwindled, it has become apparent to our event organizers that a new direction is in order. The Alumni Scholarship was founded on the belief that puppetry is a contagious art form.For the last 15 years, the guild has held an annual fundraiser to provide scholarship assistance to attendees to the National Puppetry Conference at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center. All profits from these performances will fund an Alumni Scholarship to attend the National Puppetry Conference, in order to continue propagating provocative theatrical works. In this Under The Puppet episode, Allan Trautman returns to discuss his first trip to the Eugene ONeill National Puppetry Conference. These puppetry pieces feature some of the work developed at the National Puppetry Conference held at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center. Sponsored by the Puppet Slam Network, this showcase of puppetry combines Twin Cities talents, Kurt Hunter, Steve Mark, Liz Schacterle, and Sandy Spieler, with the ingenuity of New York City puppeteers, Liz Hara, Marta Mozelle MacRostie, and Honey Goodenough to explore the infectious nature of puppets.
